Thank you for your interest in employment with the City of Athens.
In accordance with city policy, first consideration for job vacancies is given to qualified city employees. With the exception of police officer and firefighter positions, applications from the public are only accepted for specific vacancies that have been posted in Human Resources, on the City's website and with the State Employment Office. A properly completed City of Athens application is required. If you wish to apply, please come by the Human Resources Department between the hours of 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or you may download an application and email it to Human Resources. Our employment process for each position generally takes from 4 to 7 weeks before a final selection is made. For each vacancy, we receive 30-60 applications; therefore, we are unable to respond to individual applications in writing or to answer numerous phone inquiries concerning the status of a position.
Please be assured that your application will be thoroughly reviewed by Human Resources. However, only the top applicants for each position are selected for interviews. If you do not hear from the City within 2-3 weeks concerning an interview, you can assume that other candidates were a closer skill match for the position.
