Street Construction Closures

U.S. 31 work

Weather permitting, on Monday, Oct. 1, and Tuesday, Oct. 2, contractors will start installing signage in preparation for traffic signalization and other improvements related to the new Athens High School and Athens Bible School. The work to be done includes:

  • Installing a traffic signal at the entrance to the new schools;
  • Making crossover improvements on U.S. 31 (southbound right-turn lane and northbound left-turn lane at the new Athens high driveway); and
  • Improving Pryor Street at Golden Eagle Drive, and U.S. 31 at Alabama 251.

Contractors will advise the city about a start date for the work so the public will receive notification. Contractors plan to work after 8:30 a.m. to reduce the impact on school traffic.
