The City of Athens Cemetery Department operates and maintains the following five cemeteries:
- Roselawn Cemetery Located on US Hwy 31 North at Forest Street
- Thatch-Mann Cemetery Located on West Hobbs Street
- Athens City Cemetery Located on Washington Street
- Hine-Hobbs Street Cemetery Located on Hines Street at West Hobbs Street (No Available Lots)
- Old Athens City Cemetery Located on Washington Street at Beaty Street (No Available Lots)
Perpetual Care and Up Keep
Perpetual care is included in the price of the lots, purchased after December 14, 1965. Lots acquired before December 14, 1965, have an upkeep charge as follows:
$8.00 per year - full lot (8 graves)
$4.00 per year - half lot (4 graves)
$2.00 per year - quarter lot (2 graves)
*unless noted on deed
Perpetual care is obtainable by paying all upkeep in arrears plus a $100.00 fee per full lot, $50.00 per half lot.
Upkeep must be current before any interment or improvement to the lot.

Pricing
Full lots - (8 graves) $2,400.00
Half lots - (4 graves) $1,200.00
Quarter lots - (2 graves) $600.00
*the sale of lots are in pairs only.
Grave Openings and Closing
Regular - $400.00
3:00 p.m. & After - $400.00
Weekends - $400.00
Cremation and Infants (2yrs & under) Regular - $200.00
3:00 p.m. and After & Weekend - $200.00
*No burials on City observed holidays
Transfer Deeds fee $5.00
Improvement Permit $10.00
Monument Regulations
Monuments may be placed on any lot. An improvement permit is required before setting any marker or monument. Monuments should not be more than six feet in height.
Flag Regulations
Flag poles are permitted but the flag pole needs to be at the head of the grave site. The City of Athens Cemetery Department will remove flags and properly dispose of them, when they are so worn that they are no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country. The City of Athens will not replace any worn flags that it removes
Flower Regulations
(Flower, Trees, Shrubs, & Ornaments)
Placement of flowers is acceptable year round on monuments, at the base of monuments or at foot markers.
No flowers are allowed on the ground between April 1 and October 31 for grass cutting and trimming.
Fresh flower removal should take place seven (7) days following a funeral. The removal of silk flowers should take place within twenty-one (21) days following a funeral unless placed as specified above.
The cemetery staff will remove flowers as stated. Unless, removed ahead of time by family.
Shrubbery, trees, or any ornament require approval by the Department Head of the Cemetery Department. City Cemetery personnel shall remove any trees, shrubs, or ornament that becomes detrimental to the adjacent lots or prevent opening of a grave.
The City of Athens does not assume any liability for any monument, flowers, shrubbery, ornaments, etc. in any City owned cemetery.
